A Tex-Mex twist on the classic sandwich.

Ingredients:

+ Add All Ingredients to Shopping List
1 lb. ground beef+ Add to Shopping List
1/2 cup chopped red bell pepper+ Add to Shopping List
1/2 cup chopped onion+ Add to Shopping List
1 celery rib, chopped+ Add to Shopping List
2 cloves garlic, minced+ Add to Shopping List
1 chipotle pepper in adobo sauce, chopped+ Add to Shopping List
1 teaspoon chili powder+ Add to Shopping List
1 teaspoon ground cumin+ Add to Shopping List
1 1/2 cups salsa+ Add to Shopping List
2 tablespoons chili sauce+ Add to Shopping List
4 hamburger buns+ Add to Shopping List

Directions:

  1. Cook the beef, red pepper, celery and onion in a large skillet over medium heat until the meat browns.
  2. Drain off the fat. Add the garlic, chipotle pepper, chili powder and cumin and cook a couple minutes longer.
  3. Then stir in the salsa and chili sauce and simmer for about five minutes or so until the mixture starts to thicken.
  4. Some garnishes may include shredded cheese, sour cream, jalalpeños - you name it. Serve on slider or full-size rolls, with corn bread or just by itself like you might serve chili.
