This Sunday is extra sweet because it’s National Cheesecake Day! Every year on July 30th we celebrate one of the yummiest and creamiest foodie holidays. Here are two fun facts for National Cheesecake Day: the earliest form of cheesecake was traced to the 5th century B.C. on the Greek island of Samos. Fresh cheese that was pounded smooth and mixed with flour and honey. The main ingredient in modern cheesecake, cream cheese, was invented on accident by William Lawrence in 1872, when he was attempting to replicate the recipe for Neufchâtel, a soft French cheese. Instead of removing the chicken from the bones for the next day’s soup, she chose to deep fry chicken wings, coat them in butter and toss the wings in her homemade sauce. Margot’s Morsels begin as authentic San Francisco sourdough bread that’s sliced into small strips then seasoned and baked to crispy perfection. Great on its own as a yummy snack, alongside hummus or a dip, crumbled into breadcrumbs and sprinkled on your favorite dishes or enjoy them as croutons in a salad for a delightful crunch and burst of big flavor!

Continue your Ice Cream Month celebrations with San Carlos’ own Tin Pot Creamery ice cream. Created by pastry chef and mompreneur Becky Sunseri back in 2012 as an Ice Cream of the Month Club. Drawing on her Midwest roots of tried-and-true recipes, and her Nutritional Science education from Carnell University, Becky set out to create truly exceptional ice cream with standout flavors. Each batch begins with locally sourced ingredients for mix-ins and a higher butterfat content milk that is put into a gelato style machine to churn. The result is a French-style ice cream with a custard-like base that is creamier, richer, and more flavorful than traditional ice cream. If you’ve never experienced Tin Pot ice cream before, stop by our frozen section to this wonderful frosty treat and other yummy ice creams.

This Wednesday, July 19th is National Hot Dog Day. Stop by your local Bianchini’s this week to pick up Niman Ranch Fearless Franks, hot dog buns and your favorite condiments to celebrate! The first true ice cream is said to have been introduced in the 16th century by Catherine de’Medici. Charles I of England was so enamored with the dessert that he paid to have the formula kept a secret, making ice cream unobtainable for the common man. It wasn’t until the 18th century that the first recorded recipe of ice cream was written. And today, ice cream remains one of the most popular desserts, especially during the hot summer months. To celebrate the chilly treat we call ice cream, we are featuring a local favorite, Marianne’s Ice Cream. Lenore and Tom Becker opened their ice cream parlor in 1947 at 1020 Ocean Street in Santa Cruz. Named after their daughters Mary and Anne, their goal was to make the best ice cream with only the highest quality ingredients. Current owners Kelly Dillon & Charlie Wilcox were hand-picked to carry on the tradition. Kelly and Charlie love it when folks who came with their grandparents back in the 1940’ and 50’s, bring their grand-kids and great grand-kids today. That’s six generations represented! You can find Marianne’s Ice Cream and many other delicious pints in our freezer section.
