Cheers to National IPA Day
Raise a glass and toast to National IPA Day this Thursday, August 7th, by enjoying your favorite India Pale Ale (IPA). IPAs are known for being full-bodied, bold, and bitter, and they typically have a higher alcohol by volume (ABV) compared to many other styles of beer. The history of IPAs dates to the 18th century, when they were first brewed for English ships bound for India. The higher hop content allowed for better preservation during the long journey. Although the popularity of IPAs faded in England over time, they experienced a resurgence with American craft brewers in the late 20th century, leading to the diverse range of IPAs available today. If you love IPAs or would like to try one, join us at our San Carlos location on August 7th from 3 PM to 6 PM to sample San Carlos’ own Devils Canyon IPA.

Just Peachy!
Celebrate National Peach Month throughout August by enjoying ripe, sweet peaches! Eat them fresh as a healthy snack, blend them into a smoothie, bake them into a pie, or try them grilled and served alongside your favorite BBQ foods. What’s your favorite way to enjoy a peach? The origin of peaches can be traced back to 6000 B.C. in ancient China. At that time, they were considered a luxury food enjoyed mainly by the emperor and royalty. Over the centuries, peaches spread around the world through trade and gifts, eventually arriving on American shores in the 1500s thanks to the voyages of Christopher Columbus. Since then, the popularity of peaches has flourished. In 1982, former President Ronald Reagan declared August as National Peach Month, making it the sweetest 31 days of the year! Here’s a fun fact about peaches: there are over 2,000 varieties worldwide, each distinct in size, shape, color, and taste. Be sure to check out our peach recipe collection for some of our tastiest dishes!

Ripe, Flavorful Tomatoes
The summer season is when tomatoes are at their peak, when they are at their most flavorful. Shake up your summer cocktail menu with a Tomato Martini. Simply mashing the tomato in the bottom of the shaker with a few basil leaves infuses the gin with vegetal flavors, doubling down on the spirit’s complex floral character. Once mixed and strained, the essence of the tomato is all that’s left, creating a combination of salty, savory, and sweet notes with herbaceous undertones, the perfect summertime cocktail. Try this Tomato Martini recipe courtesy of Bon Appetit Magazine.

Wing It for Chicken Wing Day
One of the tastiest foodie holidays is this Tuesday, July 29th. We’re of course talking about National Chicken Wing Day. Celebrate with us by tossing some wings in your favorite sauce. Did you know that Buffalo wings can be traced back to 1964 to Anchor Bar in Buffalo, New York? The story goes, Teressa Bellissimo, owner of the bar, decided to make a late-night snack. Instead of removing the chicken from the bones for the next day’s soup, she chose to deep fry chicken wings, coat them in butter, then toss the wings in her homemade sauce. Creating the first batch of buffalo chicken wings and forever changing the snacking landscape. It didn’t take long for National Chicken Wing Day to be inaugurated on July 29th, 1977, in Buffalo, New York, the birthplace of buffalo wings. Whether you love your wings hot and spicy or sweet and saucy, there are so many ways to enjoy chicken wings! Browse our chicken wing recipe collection to try at home for National Chicken Wing Day.

Delightful Pairings
When it comes to meal and wine
pairings, especially with dishes rich in garlic, a crisp white wine with high acidity is typically the best choice. Wines such as Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, and Vermentino can effectively cut through the pungency of garlic. Dry sparkling wines like Champagne and Prosecco are also excellent options for complementing garlic’s distinctive flavor. If you prefer bolder flavors in red wine, a light to medium-bodied Beaujolais works well. Visit our wine department and get our everyday 10% off when you purchase six or more 750ml bottles, including champagne and sparkling wine. Whether you’re looking for your favorite or want to try something new, our staff is available and happy to assist you with any questions you may have.

Now We’re Cooking…with Garlic!
Garlic is a staple ingredient in many kitchens and an essential component of numerous cuisines. Celebrated for its distinctive and aromatic flavor, garlic is often described as piquant and savory. It adds depth and complexity to dishes, sauces, and marinades. Whether enjoyed raw, sautéed, baked, grilled, or roasted, garlic’s flavor can range from subtle to boldly pungent. Roasting garlic softens its sharpness, while raw garlic delivers a vigorous kick of flavor. An often-overlooked aspect of garlic is its nutritional value. It is a good source of calcium, potassium, iron, manganese, vitamin C, and vitamin B6, as well as natural fiber and antioxidants like allicin. These qualities solidify its role as a powerful ally in a healthy, balanced diet. If you’re a garlic lover, check out our garlic recipe collection for some truly flavorful ideas.

National Grand Marnier Day
Did you know that July 14th is recognized as National Grand Marnier Day? If you haven’t tried Grand Marnier yet, you’re in for a real treat! The story began in 1827 when Jean Baptiste Lapostolle established a high-quality fruit liqueur distillery in Neauphle-le-Château, a small town near Paris. Jean Baptiste’s granddaughter, Julia, married Louis-Alexandre Marnier. Four years later, Louis-Alexandre created the first bottle of Grand Marnier by blending fine French cognac with bigarade oranges, also known as bitter oranges. This innovative idea was considered avant-garde at the time. Not long after its launch, Grand Marnier became popular and was featured at the Ritz Paris and the Savoy Hotel. Interestingly, the recipe has remained unchanged since its creation, demonstrating the lasting appeal of this aromatic and uniquely flavorful liqueur. If you’re feeling adventurous, we have a perfect homemade ice cream sauce that will elevate your next bowl of ice cream!
